Courtnay Thompson
Market President, Select Health of South Carolina
Courtnay Thompson is the Market President for Select Health of South Carolina, a Medicaid managed care organization (MCO) that is part of the AmeriHealth Caritas Family of Companies and the plan most preferred by Medicaid beneficiaries in South Carolina. Thompson is responsible for general oversight and day-to-day operations, including the strategic direction, growth, and leadership of the plan, which serves more than 417,000 members as the first and largest Medicaid MCO in the state.
Thompson previously served as Director of Plan Operations and Administration and as a business operations analyst for the plan. Her responsibilities included overseeing day-to-day health plan operations and contractual requirements execution, as well as acting as liaison between the plan and government stakeholders.
Additionally, Thompson has held Utilization Management roles for AmeriHealth Caritas’ Medicaid managed care plans in South Carolina and Louisiana. Prior to her plan-specific roles, she was appointed Director of Clinical Program Analytics for AmeriHealth Caritas.
Thompson earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She began her career in health care working as a nurse at the Medical University of South Carolina, where she was recognized with the Palmetto Gold award for excellence in nursing practice and commitment to the nursing profession.
Thompson is a member of the boards of Ronald McDonald House Charities Charleston (SC) and the Lowcountry Orphan Relief. She previously served on the board for the American Lung Association’s South Carolina chapter as well as the Trident United Way of South Carolina’s campaign cabinet. In addition, she performs volunteer service work in support of a variety of nonprofits that serve children and families throughout South Carolina.
