The CDC and CMS met over March 19th and 20th to discuss proposed updates to ICD-10 coding being considered for implementation on October 1, 2025, including two diagnostic codes related to SDOH:
1. “Problems related to digital literacy” and
2. Additional housing codes
3. “Target of (perceived) adverse discrimination and persecution due to racism
On May 14, 2024 AHIP submitted comments to the ICD-10 Coordination and Maintenance Committee regarding the proposed new diagnosis codes and revisions. AHIP’s comments focus on the social determinants of health code proposals for digital literacy, housing, and economic circumstances, and target of (perceived) adverse discrimination. We also included a note of consideration as the CDC and other stakeholders actively evaluate the move to ICD-11.
