AHIP has addressed a letter to Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), expressing support for their bipartisan legislation, the “Eliminating Kickbacks in Recovery Act” (S. 3254), which would establish criminal penalties for unlawful payments for referrals to recovery homes and clinical treatment facilities.
Our letter states: “Our members support your efforts to impose strong penalties on unscrupulous individuals who, for their own financial gain, exploit vulnerable patients who are struggling with substance use disorders. Health insurance providers support access to high quality, accredited treatment facilities and we are deeply concerned about fraudulent practices that undermine our efforts and endanger the lives of vulnerable patients.”
