Final Rule Aligning 42 CRF Part 2 and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Records with HIPAA

Overview

As part of the CARES Act of 2020, Congress made much needed improvements to 42 CFR Part 2, recognizing the need to facilitate better coordination of care for SUD while maintaining important confidentiality protections. Regulations implementing these changes were finalized in February 2024 with a compliance date of February 2026.
