Overview
Steady growth typically indicates that a company is doing something right, and for Medica, a large health insurance provider in Minnesota, that has been the case for nearly the past 50 years. However, over the past several years, the company has experienced explosive growth, expanding its lines of business and the number of states in which it operates – growing from four to 12 states in only six years.
The core administrative processing system (CAPS) underlying this growth is HealthRules® Payer from HealthEdge®. As the business grew, so did the number of HealthRules Payer instances. For Medica’s Manager of Configuration Architecture, Quality and Business Analysts, Robb Tushie-Lessard, this period of rapid growth introduced new complexities and challenges in the way the business implemented and supported the growing number of HealthRules Payer instances. He turned to the experts within the HealthEdge team for guidance in finding a more efficient way to manage this growth. The outcome of the Medica-HealthEdge collaboration included extreme business efficiencies for Medica and a web-based application that all HealthRules Payer customers can use to manage large scale, complex, multiinstance environments. HealthRules Payer configuration at Medica was large, complex, and interwoven. HealthRules Promote provided insight into the complexities.
