Telehealth Claims in 2020 by Physician Specialty

AHIP analyzed outpatient claims incurred by enrollees in group health plans during Calendar Year 2020 as reported in the MerativeTM MarketScan® Research Database. Claims reported using CPT code modifiers GT, GQ, or 95 indicate remote patient monitoring. Results were then sorted by provider type to identify the top 20 provider types accounting for a share of total telehealth claims in 2020 (in excess of 1%), as well as by total claims in 2020 to identify the top 20 provider types with the highest share of telehealth claims during the year. Two separate data sets resulted and were ranked in descending order from 1 through 20. Within this database, a claim generally indicates an entire visit, although for some specialties, a visit could consist of multiple CPT codes reported to the database.
