Medicaid managed care organizations across the US are using In Lieu of Services (ILOS) to support members more holistically, addressing unmet social needs alongside medical needs. Guidance released by CMS in January 2023 provides more detail about how States and MCOs can offer ILOS, examples of ILOS programs, and answers about resource allocation within a health plan’s capitation. Gold Coast Health Plan participates in California’s Community Supports (CS) program and offers several ILOS to members, including medically tailored, home-delivered meals.
Adoption of the CS program by MCOs in California has been robust, and each MCO determines its own ILOS programs, identification criteria, and associated workflows. Gold Coast’s program stands apart for its ease of use for members, staff and partners.
